The New Year and holiday season gives everyone an equal chance to make positive changes to their health and lifestyles. One of the most popular New Year’s resolutions is lose weight, and this can sometimes be one of the most difficult resolutions to achieve.
If you’ve been struggling with difficulties reducing stubborn fat, Smartlipo could be the solution for you. Imagine how great it would be to start off the new year with a new you! One positive change can only lead to more in the future.
At Cascade Medical Boutique, we use the highly-acclaimed Smartlipo Laser Body Sculpting system to perform laser liposuction. Smartlipo was the first laser liposuction procedure approved by the FDA, and has remained the most popular ever since. Laser liposuction differs from traditional liposuction because it is much less invasive, and recovery is quicker, with less trauma overall. Lipocavitation is a newer procedure that also differs from other forms of lipo. Below is a chart with the main differences between the three.
|Usually under general anesthesia||Local anesthesia||No anesthesia|
|Loose skin remains where fat is suctioned out||Tightened skin from collagen production where lasers are used (visible after three to six months)||Will not give the results of traditional lipo or Smartlipo and leaves loose skin|
|Significant pain||Less pain||Less pain|
|Increased chance of complications (based on touch-ups)||Less chance of complications (based on touch-ups)||Less chance of complications|
|Resume work after a week||Resume work after two days||Resume work soon after|
You may notice in this chart that lipocavitation (ultrasonic lipo) sounds very appealing, but in fact, it does not consistently work at the same effectiveness as traditional or laser liposuction. The idea behind lipocavitation is to liquify fat cells using ultrasound (high-pitched sound waves), which then get flushed out through the lymphatic system. This system is more effective for removing fat from the upper abdomen, sides, and back than other areas on the body.
Traditional liposuction, of course, is the first widely-used method of liposuction and has become a bit outdated when compared to laser liposuction. Why undergo pain, a longer recovery period, and annoying aftereffects to achieve the same results that Smartlipo can?
Today’s body contouring procedures can treat large areas and small problem areas too. Smartlipo works by melting fat and fatty tissue. After local anesthesia, laser fiber is inserted into the problem area through a small incision—the only incision made during the procedure. Using thermal energy, the laser melts fat deposits, allowing them to be easily removed via suctioning, and also making for faster recovery times. After just a few days, you can return to your normal activities.
Because the area is anesthetized, there is minimal discomfort during the procedure. You may feel pressure but it is a mild sensation. Following laser lipolysis, you may experience some aches, much like after a physical workout. A compression garment will be worn for a short period after treatment, depending on the body area treated and the recommendation of your physician. After only a few days, you may return to your regular routine.
With a procedure time of only 1-2 hours that can be done at our Hillsboro or Tillamook locations, Smartlipo is the busy person’s ideal lipo procedure. It’s fast, easy, and produces visible results. It is best not for extremely overweight individuals, but rather for those looking to get rid of a particularly stubborn area of fat such as love handles, jowls, or upper arm flab. Patients who have previously had traditional liposuction done can have Smartlipo performed on the same areas for touchups.
