Botox® for TMJ, or temporo-mandibular joint pain has become increasingly popular. The quick injection treatment is next to painless and provides straightforward relief, typically within one or two days.
How Does It Work?Botox works by acting as a temporary, muscle paralytic. It is a safe, FDA tested product that is injected directly into the target muscle. The relaxing effect lasts about 3-5 months, depending on the area treated and the person’s metabolism. When treating TMJ, the common area for injection is directly into the mandibular muscle near the hinge joint near the ear.
When Will I See Results? The treatment is done in office, often times the same day as consultation. It takes about 15 minutes to perform the injection, and there is absolutely no downtime afterward. By using the smallest needle available, there is very rarely any bruising or visible side effects. The Botox takes action on the muscle right away, but most people experience a relief in their jaw pain about one or two full days after the treatment. Occasionally, it may take up to 14 days for full effect. At Cascade Medical Boutique, we always invite our patient back in for a follow up free of charge.
What Does it Cost?Similar to Botox for cosmetic, anti-aging treatment, Botox for TMJ is priced by the number of units needed. In cases of bilateral treatment, one may need between 30-50 units total for both sides. It’s roughly half if only one side needs treatment. At Cascade Medical Boutique, we offer complimentary consultations to determine the number of units appropriate for your condition. We also offer 0% interest financing and payment plans. Individual results may vary*.
